Recent and upcoming investment in Mexico

  • Airports: Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) initiated works to expand and upgrade the company’s international airport at the Pacific coast resort city of Puerto Vallarta. The US$350 million program will include a new passenger terminal, eight new telescopic jetways and emissions reducing technology, the company reported. (Reforma, August 30, 2022)
  • Coatings: U.S. based PPG Industries, owner of Mexico’s Comex paint brand, announced plans to upgrade its production plant in the central state of Querétaro. The US$11 million improvement program is expected to double output of powder coatings at the facility. (Diario de Querétaro, August 24, 2022)
  • Aerospace: European aerospace manufacturer Airbus reported plans to expand production at its plant in the central state of Querétaro. Investment was not specified for the program, which is expected to increase output of doors for A320 and A321 aircraft by 12% through 2026. (Reforma, August 30, 2022)
  • Food processing: Swiss processed foods giant Nestlé is projecting investment of approximately US$128 million to modernize production plants in the central state of Querétaro, the state government reported. The upgrades are expected to include software systems as well as technologies to improve water and energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. (El Economista, August 28, 2022)
  • Automotive: French metal components multinational Le Bélier inaugurated a new production plant in the central state of Guanajuato, the company reported.   • Logistics: Mexican logistics services provider Onest Logistics is currently constructing a new operations center in the central State of Mexico, the company reported. The US$9.5 million facility is planned specifically to meet rapidly growing demand from e-commerce platforms such as MercadoLibre and Amazon. (El Norte, November 30, 2021)
  • Manufacturing: French rail car manufacturer Alstom is carrying out investment of approximately US$25 million at its plant in the central state of Hidalgo, the company reported. The company is upgrading equipment, installations and testing track for the construction of rolling stock for the Maya Train, currently being built in southeastern Mexico.   • Automotive: German electronics and engineering multinational Bosch announced plans to expand production at its manufacturing plant in the central state of Aguascalientes. The US$83 million upgrade is expected to support increased output of the company’s automotive braking system components iBooster, ABS and ESP. (Forbes México, November 24, 2021)
  • Pharmaceutical: U.S. pharmaceutical multinational Baxter inaugurated a new production line at its plant in the southern state of Morelos, the company reported. The expansion is part of a US$100 million investment through 2024 that will allow the plant to increase production of kidney treatment products for the Mexican, U.S. and Latin American markets.   • Electronics: Taiwanese-owned electronics manufacturer Kemet announced plans to expand its plant in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas.   • Retail: Mexican toy retailer Juguetron plans to open 10 to 15 new stores in 2016, the company reported. Projected investment for the expansion was not specified by the company, which currently operates 77 retail locations in Mexico. (El Financiero, December 18, 2015)
  • Aerospace: French aerospace manufacturer Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (MBD), a subsidiary of Safran, is in the process of executing investment of approximately US$14 million through 2018, the company reported. MBD is currently expanding capacity to manufacture aircraft landing gear at its plant in the central state of Querétaro. (El Financiero, December 15, 2015)
  • Transport: Mexican inter-city passenger bus operator Grupo ADO will invest approximately US$6 million to build a new eco-friendly passenger terminal in the southeastern city of Chetumal. The LEED-certified site is planned to include high efficiency technologies in areas such as energy consumption, potable water and CO2 emissions reduction, among others.
