Recent and upcoming investment in Mexico

  • Fitness: The Mexican franchise operator of U.S.-based gym chain Anytime Fitness reported plans to establish 26 new Mexico locations in 2023 via investment of approximately US$9 million.  The company currently operates 71 locations in 26 Mexican states. (Reforma, December 22, 2022)
  • Electricity: U.S. renewable energy developer Eurus Energy America inaugurated a new wind-powered electricity generation park in the northwestern state of Baja California, the company reported.  The 50 MW site includes a 10 MW battery system and will sell power directly to Mexico’s wholesale energy market. (Reforma, December 21, 2022)
  • HVAC: U.S. heating, ventilation and refrigeration products manufacturer Lennox announced plans to invest US$150 million in productive infrastructure in the northern state of Coahuila.  Resources will support additional production lines to increase output of climate control components for various industries.   • Automotive: Italian automotive components maker Brembo announced plans to double the size of its manufacturing plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León in the coming year.  The amount of investment was not specified for the project, which will significantly boost production of the company’s advanced braking systems for OEMs such as Ferrari and Tesla.   • Plastics: Spanish plastics and pigments maker Delta Tecnic will undertake a US$1 million upgrade to its production plant in the central state of Querétaro, the company reported.  The investment will support installation of photovoltaic panels to power production of color masterbatches and raw materials for plastics for industries including automotive, telecommunications and furniture manufacturing.   • Electrical components: German electrical components maker Kostal announced it will construct a new manufacturing plant in the central state of Querétaro.  Investment was not specified for the planned 441,000 sq. ft. site, which is expected to produce power electronic components for the electric vehicle market.   • Automotive: German auto maker BMW reported investment of approximately US$40 million to expand its plant in the central state of San Luís Potosí.  The upgrade will allow the facility to boost output of the brand’s M2 sports car.  (El Economista, December 14, 2022)
  • Medical devices: U.S. medical equipment manufacturer Becton Dickinson inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in the northwestern border city of Tijuana, the company reported.  The US$38.6 million facility is expected to produce medication safety devices.  (NS Medical Devices, December 5, 2022)
  • Manufacturing: Chinese electric tool maker Ningbo Daye initiated construction of a new manufacturing plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León, the company reported.  The US$120 million facility is expected to produce intelligent power tools for gardening and landscaping.   • Automotive: Irish industrial components maker Mergon inaugurated a US$15 million manufacturing plant in the northern state of Coahuila, the company reported.  Expansion is already planned for the site which is expected to produce automotive air management systems. (Milenio, December 1, 2022)
  • Real estate: Mexican resort developer Grupo Pueblo Bonito announced plans to construct a residential and lodging complex in the tourism city of San Miguel de Allende, in the central state of Guanajuato.  The US$73 million site is expected to include a 111-room hotel as well as luxury apartments and homes.
