Recent and upcoming investment in Mexico

  • Metal forming: Mexican metal forming company Falcon Sheet Metal Industries inaugurated a new production plant in the central state of Guanajuato, the company reported.  The US$10 million facility is expected to produce steel and aluminum parts for the regional automotive industry.   • Medical devices: U.S. medical device maker Gilero inaugurated a new production facility in the northwestern border city of Tijuana, the company reported.  The US$2.5 million site is planned to provide design, development and contract manufacturing services for medical and drug delivery devices.   • Supply chain: U.S. industrial conglomerate Honeywell announced a US$3 million expansion of its Global Supply Chain Center of Excellence in the northeastern state of Nuevo León.  The site reportedly provides strategic planning for the company’s global production and supply chain operations.   • Manufacturing: Chinese electric tool maker Daya initiated construction of a new production plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León.  The US$120 million facility is expected to produce equipment such as lawn mowers, grass trimmers and leaf blowers beginning in the third quarter of 2023.   • Mining: Mexican mining company Minera Autlán reported plans to invest US$50 million to install a new ferroalloys furnace at its plant in the eastern Gulf state of Veracruz to supply the steel industry.  The company is also studying the possibility of supplying manganese to the automotive battery manufacturing industry.   • Manufacturing: Spanish engineering and electronics multinational Tempel Group inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León, the company reported.  Investment was not specified for the site, which will design, produce and distribute racks for electronic equipment principally for the energy industry.   • Agricultural machinery: U.S. heavy equipment manufacturer John Deere announced plans to expand its plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León.  The US$55 million upgrade will include two new lines expected to produce skid steer loaders and mower conditioners beginning in 2023.   • Retail: U.S.-based grocery and general merchandise retailer H-E-B announced a US$12.8 million investment program for Mexico operations through 2023.  Plans include opening five new stores and remodeling another 15 sales locations throughout the country. (El Financiero, November 17, 2022)
  • Construction materials: Swiss construction finishings maker Rehau began building a new manufacturing plant in the central state of Guanajuato, the company reported.  The US$25 million site is planned to produce t-moldings and edge covers for the furniture industry.   • Electric parts: Taiwanese electric components maker Etron Technology inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León.  The facility, expected to produce electric switches, represents investment of US$5 million with potential for another US$15 million to expand the site, the company reported.   • Retail: U.S.-based DIY and hardware retailer The Home Depot inaugurated two new stores in the states of Jalisco and Nuevo León, the company reported.  The US$38.5 million expansion is part of the chain’s plans to reach 150 stores in Mexico in the coming years.   • Automotive: Canadian automotive components maker Martinrea announced plans to expand its manufacturing plant in the central state of Querétaro.  The US$37 million upgrade is expected to boost production of parts including suspension subframes, engine blocks and transmission housings.   • Rail freight: Mexican rail freight operator Ferromex, subsidiary of Grupo Mexico Transportes, is completing construction on a new intermodal freight terminal near the Pacific coast port of Manzanillo, the company reported.  The US$29 million site is intended to increase capacity for rail freight distribution from the port to other regions of Mexico.   • Automotive: U.S. auto parts manufacturer Maval inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in the northeastern border city of Nuevo Laredo, state of Tamaulipas, the company reported.  The US$2 million initial production space is expected to turn out pumps and gears for power steering systems.   • Manufacturing: Japanese electric motor manufacturer Nidec initiated operations at a new production plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León.  The US$18.6 million site is expected to produce power conversion equipment such as electric drives and motors for industrial applications.   • Automotive: U.S. automotive multinational Ford inaugurated a new research and innovation center in the central State of Mexico.  The US$260 million facility includes cutting-edge design and engineering laboratories as well as administrative offices.  (Reforma, November 2, 2022)
