Recent and upcoming investment in Mexico

  • Airports: Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) initiated works to expand and upgrade the company’s international airport at the Pacific coast resort city of Puerto Vallarta. The US$350 million program will include a new passenger terminal, eight new telescopic jetways and emissions reducing technology, the company reported. (Reforma, August 30, 2022)
  • Coatings: U.S. based PPG Industries, owner of Mexico’s Comex paint brand, announced plans to upgrade its production plant in the central state of Querétaro. The US$11 million improvement program is expected to double output of powder coatings at the facility. (Diario de Querétaro, August 24, 2022)
  • Aerospace: European aerospace manufacturer Airbus reported plans to expand production at its plant in the central state of Querétaro. Investment was not specified for the program, which is expected to increase output of doors for A320 and A321 aircraft by 12% through 2026. (Reforma, August 30, 2022)
  • Food processing: Swiss processed foods giant Nestlé is projecting investment of approximately US$128 million to modernize production plants in the central state of Querétaro, the state government reported. The upgrades are expected to include software systems as well as technologies to improve water and energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. (El Economista, August 28, 2022)
  • Automotive: French metal components multinational Le Bélier inaugurated a new production plant in the central state of Guanajuato, the company reported. The US$102 million site is expected to manufacture cast aluminum components for the automotive and aerospace industries. (Reforma, August 25, 2022)

  • Retail: U.S.-based DIY and hardware retailer The Home Depot is projecting investment in Mexico operations of approximately US$400 million in the medium term, the company reported. Plans include the opening of 20 new stores over the next six years as well as expansion of distribution infrastructure. (Reforma, August 18, 2022)
  • Composites: Chinese advanced materials manufacturer Leadgo inaugurated a new production plant in the northeastern state of Coahuila, the state government reported. The US$5 million facility is expected to produce specialized films, meshes and tapes for the aerospace, automotive and wind power industries. (El Heraldo de Saltillo, August 17, 2022)
  • Housing: Chinese modular housing maker Vessel reported plans to establish a manufacturing facility in the northeastern state of Nuevo León. The US$300 million plant is expected to produce prefabricated units that include solar panels and intelligent water recycling technology. (Reforma, August 17, 2022)
  • Personal care: Mexican personal care products maker Grisi reported plans to invest approximately US$28 million to establish a new manufacturing and distribution complex in the central state of Hidalgo. The site is expected to produce shampoo for the brands Pert and Ricitos de Oro, which will be warehoused and distributed out of the new logistics facilities. (Reforma, August 15, 2022)
  • Logistics: U.S. logistics operator FedEx inaugurated two new distribution centers in the central state of Guanajuato via investment of approximately US$14 million, the company reported. The new logistics facilities will allow FedEx to speed up reception and delivery services in the state as well as implement a new program of lower prices for small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) in the region.   • Automotive: U.S.-Mexican joint-venture GG Trailers will establish a manufacturing plant in the northern state of Coahuila, the state government announced. The planned US$16 million facility is expected to produce tanker trailers and container chassis trailers for the Mexican, U.S. and Canadian markets. (El Economista, August 9, 2022)
  • Manufacturing: Danish toy maker LEGO inaugurated a major expansion of its manufacturing complex in the northeastern state of Monterrey, the company reported. The upgrade is part of a US$500 million program that includes a new fully automated high-bay warehouse and additional production infrastructure for assembling and decorating LEGO products, with new molding facilities to come in the future.   • Industrial parks: Mexican commercial real estate developer Fondo Inmobiliario Meor reported plans to construct a new industrial park in the northern border city of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua state. The US$30 million facility will target international and domestic manufacturing and logistics companies seeking to take advantage of “nearshoring” opportunities due to the location’s proximity to the United States.   • Pet food: Multinational food processor and commodities trader ADM reported investment of US$3.5 million to establish a new distribution center in the central State of Mexico. The facility is planned to increase logistics capacity for shipping pet food to the Mexican, Central American and Colombian markets. (Reforma, August 2, 2022)
  • Pharmaceutical: Mexican pharmaceutical manufacturer Neolpharma plans to construct a new distribution center and manufacturing site in the central State of Mexico, the state government reported. The US$123 million site is expected to produce product vials and expand logistics capacity in the region. (Inmobiliare, August 1, 2022)
