Recent and upcoming investment in Mexico

  • Food processing: Spanish pizza marketer Food Delivery Brands inaugurated a new production and administrative facility in the central state of Querétaro, the company reported. The US$8.5 million site, expected to produce pizza dough for the company’s Pizza Hut restaurants in the country, includes refrigerated and freezer warehousing, packaging operations, raw materials handling and shipping infrastructure.   • Manufacturing: Japanese air conditioning multinational Daikin plans to establish a manufacturing plant in the central state of San Luís Potosí, the state government reported. The US$230 million facility is expected to produce energy-efficient air conditioning units for the U.S. market. (Cluster Industrial, July 25, 2022)
  • Retail: Mexican grocery and general merchandise retailer Grupo Chedraui plans to open approximately 100 new Smart & Final grocery stores in Mexico, the company reported. Chedraui currently operates 17 Smart & Final stores in northwestern Mexico in partnership with regional grocery retailer Grupo Calimax. (Reforma, July 27, 2022)
  • Railroad: U.S.-owned rail freight operator Kansas City Southern de México (KCSM) reported plans to invest up to US$195 million to construct a railway bypass in the central state of Guanajuato. The new track will allow KCSM to provide freight services in the region without passing through the central zone of the city of Celaya. (El Economista, July 21, 2022)
  • Brewing: French malt producer Malteurop is projecting completion of a new malting plant in the northern state of Chihuahua at a total cost of US$120 million, the company reported.   • Aerospace: European aerospace manufacturer Airbus Helicopters will expand its operations in the central state of Querétaro, the state government reported. Investment was not specified for the expansion, which is expected to boost production of doors for single-aisle aircraft at the facility. (Milenio, July 19, 2022)
  • Electronics: Taiwanese computer hardware maker Quanta Computer began construction on a new manufacturing plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León.   • Automotive: German auto parts maker Continental announced it will construct a new manufacturing plant in the northeastern state of San Luís Potosí.   • Manufacturing: France-based eyeglass manufacturer EssilorLuxottica will establish a manufacturing plant in the northern state of Chihuahua, the state government reported.   • Automation: Industrial engineering firm Fives DyAG, a subsidiary of French-owned Fives Group, inaugurated revamped facilities in the central state of Guanajuato, the company reported. The amount of investment was not specified for the new site, which is expected to develop and manufacture advanced automation machinery, process equipment and software for regional industries.   • Confectionery: Italian confectionery multinational Ferrero Group announced it will expand its manufacturing plant in the central state of Guanajuato. The US$50 million upgrade will include the addition of production lines and construction of a new warehousing center for managing products such as Kinder Chocolate and Kinder Maxi.   • Automotive: Japanese electrical components manufacturer Fujikura announced plans to expand operations at its two plants in the northern State of Coahuila.   • Pharmacies: Mexican pharmacy chain La Generosa is expanding rapidly, adding 120 locations through a franchising program over the previous two years. The company expects franchisees to open another 100 stores this year via investment of approximately US$4.5 million, local media reported. (Reforma, July 1, 2022)
  • Electronics: Singapore-headquartered electronics manufacturer Flex reported it is currently building a new manufacturing plant in the western state of Jalisco. The US$100 million facility is expected to produce advanced electronic components for electric and autonomous vehicles. (Somos Industria, July 2022)
  • Manufacturing: Chinese industrial manufacturer Lingong Machinery Group will construct a new production plant in the northeastern state of Nuevo León, the state government reported.
